Waking Whales & Little Fish ~ Maupiti, French Polynesia ~ August 2013/1:34 ~ Upon departure from Maupiti, we happened upon a couple of sleeping whales.  With respect to whale watching rules, we were hoping for a good photo op, but a local fishing boat scared the whales and they dove.  Attention was turned to some small fish instead.

Maupiti Manta Rays ~ French Polynesia ~ August 2013/0:32 ~ A quick swim with a couple of manta rays at their “cleaning station” in Maupiti, Society Islands, French Polynesia. Due to current and wind, the water wasn’t as clear as it normally would have been.

Sting Rays & Sharks ~ Moorea, French Polynesia ~ August 2013/5:39 ~ When we heard about the possibility of swimming with sting rays and sharks in Moorea, we had no idea what we were in for. We dinghied 3 miles to a locally known spot, and we fed sting rays, as black tipped reef sharks circled us. It was an incredible experience!

Anse Amyot, Toau – Tuamotus ~ July 2013 / 5:12 ~ Snorkeling in Anse Amyot, Toau (Tuamotus, French Polynesia).

Georgetown Dolphin ~ January 2013 / 2:10 ~ A small dolphin hangs in the Stocking Island anchorage near Georgetown, Bahamas.  Justine & Colin jumped in the water to swim with the dolphin, and it completely responded to their presence.  I followed in the dinghy and noticed that the dolphin was actually waiting for Justine & Colin to catch up to it.  Colin had the camera in hand while he was trying to keep up with the dolphin.  Therefore, much of the video is rather shaky, but there are some great moments.

Reef Sharks ~ Rudder Cut Cay ~ January 2013 / 8:56 ~ We had just returned from spearfishing, and were going to jump in for a quick swim, when these reef sharks showed up.  We decided to go ahead and give them a little fish head snack!

Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park ~ December 2012 / 9:20 ~ Our time spent snorkeling in the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park.  Beautiful reefs, many fish varieties, big lobster, and even a plane wreck.

Nurse Shark & Remora ~ December 2012 / 4:03 ~ As soon as we dropped our anchor near Warderick Wells (Bahamas), a nurse shark came to rest under the boat. During our stay, we would get periodic visits from the shark, and we’d quickly jump in to swim with it. We apologize for some of the shaky hands while filming!

Bahamas Snorkeling ~ December 2012 / 4:19 min ~ Some of s/v Full Monty’s snorkeling experiences in the Bahamas. Lynyard Cay in the Abacos and near Lobster Cay in northern Eleuthera.

Port Washington Blow ~ September 2012 / 2:49 min ~ On September 18, 2012 we were anchored in Port Washington on Long Island (NY).  The wind blew 30-35 knots, with a top gust of 47 knots.  The wind howled for the entire day, and we were worn out by the end.

Lobster Crate Race ~ September 2012 ~ Colin ran a Lobster Crate Race at Camden’s Windjammer Festival in Maine. He ran 109 crates before finally falling in the cold water. Not bad for a North Carolina native!

Humpback Whales ~ August 2012 / 2:34 min ~ Sailing from Plymouth, MA to Portland, ME, we sailed across Stellwagen Bank for some whale watching. The whale experience is one not to be forgotten.

Surfing Hurricane Bill Waves / 10:37 min ~ On August 22, 2009, waves from Hurricane Bill arrived in Surf City, NC. Some waves were double overhead. It was an awesome sight! And, in case you start wondering . . . he does make it out to catch some waves!  The last wave viewed is the one that ends the session with a broken leash & side bite.

Junior Sailing ~ July 2009 / 6:23 min ~ Justine took the 2 week sailing course with the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort.  She learned a ton and loves sailing even more.

Maiden Voyage ~ Part 1 / Sarasota to Ft Lauderdale / 5:41 min ~ April 2009

Your St Martin is being blocked by youtube due to the background music. I’d like to see it (as I’m sure others would), could you drop the copyrighted music and re-post?

Thank you for letting me know about the block. Since I’m always logged in when I view our YouTube videos, I never knew some of the videos were blocked. I will take care of this as soon as possible. Thanks again!

The St Martin video is now reposted with different audio. Hopefully, it works now!

My pleasure, you have a great blog here and I’ll follow your 60 day remaining count down clock. If my forum had an issue that only the members were privy to, I would hope someone would tell me. It looks like your kids are well cut out for cruising. I have yet to meet an adult that grew up as a “cruiser kid”, that didn’t have a good outlook on life, while at the same time possessing MacGyver like skill set.

Much thanks for all the compliments! We always enjoy reading other cruising blogs and learning from them, so it’s good to know we might be contributing to the learning of others. And it’s very exciting to know that we aren’t the only ones watching our countdown! My stomach did flip flops this morning when I saw it flip to 59 days! When I’m not schooling, I’m hoping to fix the video problems & add a few more posts this week. Will be interested to know which cat you end up choosing. Please keep us posted.
